Regenstauf celebrates athletes: championship honor for great successes!
On October 10, 2025, the Regenstauf market's annual athlete honor took place in the Jahnhalle. In a festively decorated hall, First Mayor Josef Schindler welcomed numerous successful athletes who were honored for their outstanding achievements in 2024 and 2025. The event was given special importance because it not only honors the successes of the athletes, but also underlines the positive image of Regenstauf, as Schindler emphasized in his speech.
The awards included honors for German and Bavarian champions, Upper Palatinate and district champions and district cup winners. These successes are not only a sign of the athletes' individual talent and commitment, but also reflect the support they receive from coaches, department heads, club boards, supporters and their families. Schindler thanked all of these people for their important contribution to the successes of the honored athletes.
Honoring the CITY CYCLING winners
Another highlight of the event was the award ceremony for the winning teams of CITY CYCLING, an initiative of the Climate Alliance Services to promote cycling and climate protection. This year, first place went to the Regenstauf secondary school team, which collected the most kilometers with 32,589 km and 141 participants. The Ramspau game association secured second place with 12,105 km and 35 active cyclists, while the Regenstauf parish community took third place with 6,683 km and 24 active cyclists.
These successes not only illustrate citizens' commitment to climate protection, but also underline the relevance of bicycles as an environmentally friendly means of transport in the community. According to information from stadtradeln.de, the CITY CYCLING campaign offers valuable data collection services that contribute to the implementation of municipal climate protection measures.
The role of sport in the community
In Regenstauf, sport is of central importance for the community and the citizens' attitude to life. As stated in the policy paper “Municipal sports policy and sports promotion” from the German Association of Cities, municipalities are the largest sponsors of sport and cover around 80 percent of total public expenditure on sport. The promotion of sports clubs and the creation of modern, multifunctional sports facilities are crucial for the attractiveness and quality of life in the community.
The ongoing changes in sports behavior and demographic developments require a rethink in sports funding. Today, many people practice sports well into old age, and numerous activities take place in public spaces, such as in parks and on cycle paths. The promotion of proven structures, the organization of sporting events and the support of competitive sports remain essential in order to meet the sporting needs of the population.
As part of the honor, the Regenstauf market congratulated all athletes on their titles and placings. The event was also accompanied by music from the newcomer band Bichlstoaner, while cheerleaders from SV Diesbach provided additional entertainment between the awards. Such events not only help promote sport, but also strengthen community cohesion.
