First graders in Maxhütte-Haidhof: On their first bus ride to school!
An exciting day is coming up in Maxhütte-Haidhof: On September 10th, a new phase of life begins for 142 children at the Maximilian primary school. These little ABC shooters will not only take their first steps into the school world, but will also learn how to get to school safely by bus.
In order to allay the children's fear of riding the bus and prepare them for the new challenges, a trial trip took place before school started. This special campaign was organized by 1234 Taxi & Omnibus GmbH, which provided two bus lines. The children drove to school with their parents, where they were warmly welcomed by principal Oskar Duschinger.
A look behind the scenes
The parents had the opportunity to take a look into the classrooms during the short walk from the school auditorium to the gymnasium. When they arrived at the town hall, the headmaster gave a welcoming speech. He asked the children if they had ever ridden the bus and if they were looking forward to school. These questions brought smiles to the little students’ faces.
Third Mayor Josef Schmid then took the floor and welcomed the new first graders and their parents. He thanked everyone who was involved in organizing the trial trip and wished the children a successful start to their school days. “This new phase of life is exciting for both the children and the parents,” he emphasized.
Katharina Bauer, who is responsible for school transport, gave parents some important information. She explained that it is normal for a child to come home a few minutes late, for example because of construction. “The bus drivers bring all children home safely,” she assured. She also pointed out that no child will be left behind, even if they get on the wrong bus or miss their stop. If items were lost on the bus, she referred to employee Barbara Christ, who is known as the “good soul of the bus company”.
Another topic was the “parent taxi”. If it is necessary to bring the child to school by car, parents should use the parking spaces at the town hall or at the Nobless restaurant. This means the children can get to school safely without having to cross the busy main road. The bus lane in front of the school remains reserved exclusively for buses to enable students to get on and off safely.
Principal Duschinger informed those present that 74 girls and 68 boys are coming to the Maximilian Elementary School this year. Fortunately, there will be six first classes for the first time, with an average of 22 to 24 children per class. “We cracked the 500 mark this school year, with more students than ever before,” said Duschinger happily. Of the 142 first graders, only 45 rely on the bus.
At the end of the event, Katharina Bauer distributed the bus timetables, which can also be accessed on the Maximilian Elementary School website. The anticipation of the start of school is palpable and the ABC shooters are ready for their new adventure.
