New concept for sculpture trail in Laaber: Art connects citizens!

On September 30, 2025, the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee of the Laaber market met and included several important topics in its agenda. A central topic was the development of an overall concept for a sculpture path in Markt Laaber. This path should not only set artistic accents, but also include signage for historically relevant buildings and house names. The project is being developed by a specially formed project group that includes Hans-Jürgen Gibis, Uwe Stöbl, Stefanie Goß, Tobias Rappl, Karl Hammerl and Jürgen Horn. Together with interested citizens and artists, a well-thought-out concept should be developed that strengthens the cultural identity of the market.

It was also announced at the meeting that the event company “all-for-you-events” is planning a medieval and fantasy market on the Mühlwiese. However, this market, which is intended to keep the tradition of craftsmanship alive and reflect the historical atmosphere of the region, will not take place until 2027 due to construction sites and other dates. The Medieval Market in Munich, on the other hand, will be held at Wittelsbacherplatz from November 24th to December 23rd, 2025 and is considered particularly atmospheric due to its historical character. Munich Medieval Market offers detailed stalls and handicrafts that evoke the roots of the city of Munich.

Events and civic engagement

For the 2025 and 2026 community festivals, the market town is planning to expand the Friday before the festival into an evening with concerts and similar events. We are looking for clubs or organizers who would like to actively participate in these evenings. This could not only strengthen the sense of community, but also contribute to cultural diversity.

In addition, once the renovation work on the Mühlwiese has been completed, relocation of the weekly market will be considered. This measure was considered necessary for traffic safety reasons. However, in order to realize this shift, a change in market statutes is required. All interested stand operators are asked to contact the administration as the parking spaces will be re-advertised.

Art in public spaces

In the context of the planned projects in Laaber, art in public spaces also plays an important role. The Learning City emphasizes how creative urban design through art can contribute to promoting cultural identity and social cohesion. The use of murals, sculptures and interactive installations can revitalize neglected areas and create attractive meeting places. Such art initiatives not only promote community engagement, but also provide a platform for dialogue between different groups of the population.

Overall, the combination of art, events and citizen participation represents an important step towards revitalizing and increasing the attractiveness of the Laaber market. The initiatives are intended not only to trigger positive development, but also to preserve the identity and history of the region.
