Green waste containers at the cemetery parking lot: Last use from December 1st!
From Monday, December 1st, 2025, the Meindl grass cutting and leaf container at the cemetery parking lot in Köfering will no longer be available. This container was previously used for the environmentally friendly disposal of pure plant waste and was only intended for grass clippings and leaves. The municipality of Köfering makes it clear that other materials such as hedge trimmings, branches, garbage or other unauthorized materials may not be thrown into the container. In the event of incorrect throwing in or unauthorized use, the municipality reserves the right to remove the container immediately. The use of the container was free of charge for the citizens of Köfering and was viewed as a valuable resource for green maintenance.
Green waste is often created when caring for plants such as hedges, bushes and lawns and often cannot be completely disposed of in the organic waste bin. That's why container services are often used in Köfering to efficiently dispose of green waste. The term green waste includes freshly cut, little or no woody plant residues, which include grasses, herbs, green bushes and the like. However, rootstocks are excluded from disposal. For proper disposal, it is important that the green waste is free of foreign components such as lumber, plastics and metals to ensure recyclability. Disposal should ideally be carried out via a suitable container service to ensure that the waste is processed correctly.
Recycling and composting of green waste
Proper disposal not only has ecological benefits, but also protects the carbon footprint. Herbaceous green cuttings are ideal for composting as they produce valuable humus and natural fertilizer. In addition, green waste with a low wood content can be converted into biogas through fermentation, which is efficient from an energy perspective. The thermal utilization of wood green waste and tree cuttings through combustion is also increasingly being used to generate energy.
The composting process involves shredding, sieving and stacking the green waste in piles where microorganisms and oxygen ensure the necessary decomposition process. This works particularly well with herbaceous plant waste, which produces more humus and regulates the water balance in the soil.
Call for correct use
The municipality of Köfering calls on its citizens to take advantage of the free opportunity to dispose of pure grass clippings and leaf waste and at the same time to report misconduct to the municipal administration in the town hall. In this way, citizens can actively contribute to keeping their surroundings clean and further promote the importance of proper waste disposal and recycling.
Given ongoing developments and impending changes to disposal services, it is important that all residents are well informed and follow the new regulations. Further information on the disposal of garden waste in Köfering can be found on the websites of Köfering, 123 Disposal and Entsorgo.
