Large fire brigade exercise in Kallmünz: life-saving exercises for everyone!
On December 3, 2025, an important exercise by the Kallmünz Volunteer Fire Department (FF), which specializes in fighting car fires, will take place. This exercise will be carried out at the Baufhof in Kallmünz, St.-Wolfgang-Straße 4. According to Kallmünz, the operation lasts around two hours and includes the controlled setting on fire and extinguishing a vehicle. The aim of the exercise is to train participants about the causes of fires and the correct procedure for car fires.
In order to take part in this training, both the Regensburg district office and the Regenstauf police station were informed and gave their consent. This support underlines the important role that training scenarios play in fire department training. Such realistic training is crucial in order to be able to react quickly and effectively in an emergency.
Dangers of car fires
The dangers posed by car fires are significant. Sudden smoke from the engine can be a sign of an impending fire. According to Brandschutz-Zentrale, it can take up to 20 minutes for a fire to actually start after the smoke appears. During this time, it is important for drivers to remain calm and pull the vehicle to the side of the road as quickly as possible so as not to endanger other road users.
After the vehicle is safely parked, the engine should be turned off and the hazard lights activated. It is also important to unlock the hood and exit the vehicle while calling the fire department, regardless of whether a fire extinguisher is available or not. If a fire extinguisher is present, there are several steps that must be followed to effectively extinguish the fire.
Variety of fire brigade training units
In addition to the exercise in Kallmünz, there are facilities such as the Training Base Weeze, which houses the largest real fire training center in Europe. As reported by Training Base Weeze, it includes over 100 realistic operational scenarios for firefighters. These range from squad man training to respiratory protection emergency training to special training for various types of fires such as vehicle fires, house fires and basement fires.
The extensive training program promotes the firefighters' ability to act quickly and correctly in extreme situations. Such preparatory measures are crucial to ensure the safety of both emergency services and the civilian population. Given the potential dangers associated with fires, training is an essential part of preparing for the challenges of firefighting operations.
