The new Wiesenwind children's home in Hemau was officially opened!

The new Wiesenwind children's home in Hemau was officially inaugurated on October 24, 2025. This modern facility, which is the seventh daycare facility in the community, welcomed its first groups of children in May 2025. The construction project, which was realized using wooden construction, covers an area of almost 700 square meters and offers space for a total of 62 children. This includes two kindergarten groups with 25 children each and a daycare group for 12 children. Construction began in March 2024 and the topping-out ceremony was celebrated on August 1, 2024.

The Wiesenwind children's home is run by the BRK Regensburg district association, which is one of the largest welfare associations in Bavaria with around 1,500 employees. Linda Yeboah, who was previously deputy manager of the “Burgspatzen” in Laaber, will take over the management of the facility. The investment costs on the part of the city of Hemau amounted to around three million euros, which underlines the importance of the project. The interiors are modern, bright and child-friendly, and the educational concept is symbolized by the name “Wiesenwind”, which stands for movement, joy and liveliness.

Premises and visit

At the inauguration, guests had the opportunity to view the new rooms and the outdoor areas of the children's house. From September 2025, additional groups will also move into the facility. During the planning and construction, great importance was placed on an attractive, functional and child-friendly design.

The BRK district association Regensburg is also looking for staff for the children's home. There are currently vacancies for full-time and part-time staff to support the teaching teams. The requirements for the position of assistant (m/f/d) include, among other things, qualifications as a day care worker and social skills.

Challenges in early childhood education

The Wiesenwind children's home comes at a time when the expansion of day care in Bavaria is characterized by a high level of dynamism. The need for childcare places is continually increasing, which will be reinforced by the upcoming changes in the area of all-day care for primary school children from 2026. In order to meet these challenges, the Bavarian Family Ministry launched the Alliance for Early Childhood Education, which develops strategies for quality assurance and personnel recruitment. The shortage of skilled workers remains a persistent challenge for institutions.

Overall, the new Wiesenwind children's home not only creates urgently needed childcare places, but also makes a valuable contribution to early childhood education in the community and beyond.
