Nationwide Warning Day 2025: Sound the sirens, test your safety!
The nationwide warning day will take place on September 11, 2025, an important initiative of the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK). The warning will be carried out between 11:00 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. and is intended to make the population aware of the relevance of warning messages and personal precautions. The BBK is responsible for the implementation and will issue a central warning message at warning level 1 for the whole of Germany during this time, as rieden.com reports.
During the trial warning, which is triggered by the federal modular warning system (MoWaS), information is passed on to radio and television stations as well as digital display boards and warning apps. Many municipalities are also testing their own warning devices, including sirens and loudspeaker trucks. Especially in the Amberg-Sulzbach district, sirens will emit a one-minute, rising and falling warning tone at 11 a.m. The all-clear will be given at around 11:45 a.m. with a one-minute continuous tone.
Goals and citizen participation
The main goals of the nationwide warning day are to review the warning systems and raise citizens' awareness of these issues. BBK President Ralph Tiesler emphasizes the importance of citizen participation and requests feedback on the continuous development of the warning system. This will also be done through an online survey that will be launched on Warning Day and will be open to citizens until September 18, 2025. Experiences with the warning channels can be shared here, according to [bbk.bund.de](https://www.bbk.bund.de/SharedDocs/Press Releases/DE/2025/09/pm-04-ankuendigung-buwata2025.html).
As in the previous year, the warning day will trigger a nationwide all-clear at 11:45 a.m., but without the cell broadcast function. In a 2024 survey, about two-thirds of citizens surveyed said they trust the national alert system and 98 percent believe regular testing of all alert channels is essential. These results underline the public's trust in the warning infrastructure.
Long-term reforms and projects
As part of the continuous improvement of warnings to the population, the federal and state governments have been working together in the ISF federal-state project since October 2016. This initiative aims to develop innovative ideas to better inform the population in dangerous situations. This information and results are made available on the website warning-der-bevoelkerung.de and illustrate the long-term efforts to optimize warning systems.
In summary, on September 11, 2025, comprehensive tests of warning systems are scheduled throughout Germany, which will both ensure the safety of citizens and promote their commitment to danger prevention. It is important that the population actively participates in these processes and shares their experiences.
