Groundbreaking ceremony for pioneering elevated tank in Hahnbach!
On October 8, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony took place for a new elevated tank at Süßen Berg in Hahnbach. Mayor Bernhard Lindner described the project as a forward-looking investment that is part of the extensive renovation of the main water pipe. The elevated tank will be built on a wood storage site that has been owned by the municipality since the municipality's land consolidation.
The water supply for the surrounding towns of Hahnbach, Süß, Schalkenthan, Wüstenau and Wüstenaumühle is secured by deep wells and a spring in the “Asser-Moos”. The elevated tank is expected to be put into operation in 2027. The planned construction work includes masterworks, the construction of a company building, electrical engineering and the installation of two stainless steel tanks with a volume of 600 liters each and the necessary processing and filter technology.
Water law permission and involvement of authorities
A water permit was granted for the construction project by the Amberg-Sulzbach district office and the Weiden water management office. This permission is essential because the Water Resources Act (WHG) applies to such construction projects. Such a permit is required, especially when interfering with water bodies or taking water from rivers and lakes. In addition to detailed construction plans, the required documents also included expert reports to assess environmental impact and evidence of compliance with the wastewater regulations, which ensure that there will be no harmful effects on the environment, as woviro.de informed.
The legal framework stipulates that other authorities must also be involved when submitting an application, including nature conservation authorities to assess possible impacts on biotopes and building authorities to review building law requirements. Early coordination with these authorities is recommended to avoid delays and legal disputes.
Costs and financing
The total costs for the project amount to around 6 million euros, with almost 2 million euros being provided as funding by the Free State. Financing is handled through the fee portion of the budget, and additional contributions are waived. Numerous guests were present at the groundbreaking event, including water officials, mayors, parliamentary group speakers and representatives of construction companies and engineering offices. At the end of the event, those present were treated to sandwiches and drinks.
The realization of this construction project will not only secure the water supply in the region in the long term, but also represents a significant step in municipal infrastructure development. Further information about the relevant plan approval procedures and approvals can be found at iwu-ev.de.
