Bridge at Vogelherd: Reopening after flood damage
The bridge at Vogelherd in Aichach is open to traffic again. This is welcome news for residents and commuters following the devastating flood events in June, which affected numerous bridges in the city. The reopening took place on Tuesday September 24th and marks another step in the return to normality.
The bridge, also known as the “Blue Steg”, connects the BCA training areas with the commercial area on Oberbernbacher Weg. It was temporarily closed due to damage to the foundation caused by the riverbed being washed out. The bridge itself rests on sturdy driven piles that are sunk deep into the ground and encased in heavy hydraulic stones to ensure its stability.
Infrastructure restoration
Thanks to the favorable weather conditions and a low water level in the pair, the final repair work was completed quickly. It is noteworthy that the level of the pair has now risen again, which underlines the urgency of the work. The city administration has stressed that the safety of the bridge was a top priority and all necessary measures were taken to secure the structure.
The reopening of the bridge will not only benefit pedestrians, but also relieve traffic in the area. Residents can now safely and conveniently use the connection between the training areas and the commercial area again. The city of Aichach shows that it is able to react quickly to natural events and restore the infrastructure.
