Celebratory organic mile: 10 years of the Steinwald eco-model region at Wolframshof Castle
On the last day of late summer, several thousand people gathered at Wolframshof Castle to celebrate the 3rd organic mile in the Steinwald Alliance. This event was not only a feast for the senses, but also a significant occasion as the Steinwald eco-model region celebrated its 10th anniversary. The first curious people flocked to the event at 10 a.m. to enjoy the festive atmosphere and try the diverse organic products.
The Organic Mile 2024 attracted the interest of visitors with long queues at the food stalls and numerous sold-out stands. The event was entirely dedicated to organic farming and regional sustainability. In order to take part in the organic mile, the providers had to meet the strict requirements of the EC organic regulation, which represents a guarantee for visitors of the quality of the products on offer.
An anniversary full of highlights
The organic mile was a very special event for the eco-model region. On this day, not only the event itself was celebrated, but also the 10th anniversary of the Steinwald eco-model region. The picturesque castle garden with its beer garden ambience provided the perfect setting for this anniversary.
Among the guests of honor was State Minister Füracker, who was warmly welcomed by the Chancellor Böllerschützen. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of local organic farming and congratulated the region on its commitment. “The Steinwald is one of the first Bavarian eco-model regions and makes an important contribution to the preservation of our cultural landscape,” he said.
The organic mile not only offered visitors the opportunity to discover regional delicacies, but also to experience the diversity of organic products. From fresh organic vegetables to Demeter spelled pasta to organic cheese and ice cream, there was something for every taste. Culinary highlights included organic beef burgers and vegetarian dishes prepared by local vendors.
Interactive experiences for young and old
The organic mile was also a place for learning. At the organic model region's information stand, visitors were able to find out about the principles of organic farming. There was a quiz rally and a bouncy castle for the little guests, which provided lots of fun. The Steinwald Alliance's mobile village shop presented a wide range of regional organic products, while the mobile cheese dairy was on site to demonstrate the art of cheese making.
At the end of the day, the organizers, including Mayor Hans Walter, castle owner Maximilian von Grundherr and Eco Model Region Manager Elisabeth Waldeck, were extremely satisfied with how the organic mile went. “It will be hard to top this!” they agreed and looked back on a successful event.
