State road 2165: Construction work almost completed - soon to be open again!
The state road 2165 between Etterzhausen and Pielenhofen made significant progress on November 14, 2025: The full closure, which had been in effect since October 13, 2025 due to extensive construction work, was lifted. This measure was necessary in order to renew the roadway and carry out rock stabilization work, which was mainly due to the aging of the asphalt and high traffic loads. The aim of this work was to improve traffic safety and the long-term usability of the road. Due to the vulnerability of the flanks, it was important to implement rock stabilization work to provide protection from falling rocks. During the construction period, road users had to be warned not to bypass or ignore closures in order to minimize safety risks, as the Regensburg state building authority emphasized.
Although the main work has largely been completed, some measures are still outstanding. This includes repairing and securing additional culverts and shafts as well as replacing the protective barriers along the route. This is particularly important as there is also minor road damage that occurred during the rock stabilization work and now needs to be repaired. However, a speed limit of 50 km/h will remain in place until all work has been completed, as road narrowings are expected.
Context of construction work
The construction work on State Route 2165 is part of a broader program to improve road infrastructure in the region. Such construction sites are necessary to optimize traffic conditions, although they typically affect traffic flow and pose potential dangers to drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. Modern solutions, such as the digital construction site tool, make it possible to enter current construction sites quickly and transparently on an interactive map. This not only makes planning trips easier, but also contributes to general road safety. With just a few clicks, information about closures and diversions can be provided, reducing citizen complaints and improving communication.
The rock stabilization work has tested the stability of the surrounding rocks, and depending on the test results, potential dangers from falling rocks are reduced or the rocks are stabilized. This work requires techniques such as anchor nails and shotcrete underpinnings to reduce erosion and provide long-term stability. In addition, the requirements of nature conservation must be taken into account, which further complicates the planning processes. Best practice procedures that were developed from the Swabian Alb biosphere area are also used.
Residents and road users are asked to pay close attention during the work and to pay close attention to the signage. The renovation and security will ensure long-term traffic safety on this important traffic artery.
