Musical education as a basis
The importance of early musical education is increasingly recognized in society. Studies show that children are receptive to music from birth. Even in the womb, they are able to recognize music and their mother's voice, which conveys a sense of security. According to Kubi Online, musical qualities penetrate into communication between caregivers and children, especially in the early development phase.
Statistics show that the proportion of children taking part in music-related activities increases with age. 10% of two-year-olds already take part in such offers, which rises to 26% for five-year-old children. Girls take part in music courses more often than boys. Participation in musical activities is strongly influenced by the parents' educational qualifications and the mother's employment.
Diverse offerings in music schools
The Stuttgart Music School offers a variety of teaching formats aimed at children, young people and adults. The offers are individually tailored and are intended to promote active musical activity. The Schmidt study points out that the lessons include basic musical elements and introduce people to different instruments in order to awaken the joy of making music. Instruments such as piano, guitar and recorder can be learned, and participation in the band “Everybody’s Sound” is also possible for advanced students, as Stuttgarter Musikschule reports.
Public music schools offer elementary music practice, which serves as a basis for later, specialized music-making. Cooperations between music schools and daycare centers are another important aspect of the music education landscape in Germany. Various programs in different federal states are intended to facilitate and expand access to musical education.
