Areas requiring action

The survey revealed a need for action in several areas. The condition of roads, sidewalks and cycle paths received an inadequate rating of 2.39 points. The parking facilities were rated with 3.10 points, while the shopping facilities were considered inadequate with only 1.85 points. In addition, the rating for local public transport was 2.80 points, although the “Elma” offer received positive feedback. In contrast, access to health services was rated well with 3.95 points and child care with 3.39 points. Planned measures for improvement

The municipality of Laaber is planning measures to address the identified problems. This includes, among other things, the introduction of a new website and the digitalization of administrative processes in order to increase citizen participation. An AI-supported citizen service is also being sought. In the future, regular citizen participation surveys will be carried out in order to continuously take residents' opinions and wishes into account. The results of the survey show a high quality of life as well as a strong cultural status and excellent medical care, while at the same time there is an urgent need for action in infrastructure and citizen participation.

In the context of the quality of life in German cities, a comprehensive study by PwC shows that the decision between city and country life is very individual. Almost nine out of ten city dwellers feel comfortable where they live, with the highest quality of life found in cities such as Munich, Nuremberg and Leipzig. Other cities, such as Berlin and Essen, have lower satisfaction scores, which are partly due to high traffic congestion and difficult housing market conditions. These findings are consistent with the results of the survey in Laaber, where quality of life is highly valued.

In addition, the DG Regio has been conducting a coordinated survey on quality of life across Europe since 2004, covering cities throughout Germany. The aim of these surveys is to enable comparative analyzes to assess the quality of life between different communities. The results of these surveys are of great importance in order to continuously improve the framework conditions for quality of life in municipal areas.

The citizen survey in Laaber represents an important step in making the demands and needs of the residents visible and promoting structural improvements in the market town.

The details and results of the survey are available on the Markt Laaber website. Further information about the quality of life in urban areas can be found in the PwC study and on the page of City statistics.
