New PointID® photo system: Get your ID card in Alteglofsheim faster!

On September 25, 2025, a new admission system will be introduced in the Alteglofsheim community that will revolutionize the application process for passport and ID card authorities. With the implementation of the PointID® system, citizens can now use modern photo-taking technology when applying for identification documents. This reports alteglofsheim.de.

The PointID® system enables the capture of facial images, fingerprints and signatures in a single, media-free process. In the future, digital photographs will no longer be printed on photo paper and scanned. In particular, the entire application process is completely digitalized. This not only helps to simplify the procedure, but also increases security against misuse, as photographs can be taken directly at the official appointment.

Advantages of the new system

Another advantage of PointID® is that if non-compliant photos are found, a new photo can be taken on site without canceling the application process. The fees for taking photographs on site are 6.00 euros nationwide in addition to the document fee. The procedure is designed to promote security and be citizen-friendly, as is the case Bundesdruckerei confirmed.

From May 1, 2025, municipalities will be obliged to implement the new regulations. This means that printed photographs will no longer be accepted. However, citizens can still have their photo taken by a private photo service provider, but the service provider must ensure that the images are transmitted to the authorities digitally and via a certified cloud.

The PointID® recording system is modular and does not require a back wall, which enables flexible use on site. The simple and intuitive user interface saves time and makes the entire process more efficient. Capturing all biometric data in one system not only saves time, but also significantly improves the quality of security documents. These aspects are also discussed in current reports from the Bundesdruckerei highlighted.

Prospects for the future

The PointID® system is currently in the certification process according to the BSI's Technical Guideline TR-03121. Authorities will be gradually equipped with this technology over the course of 2025 to enable citizens to submit applications even more smoothly. With the new regulations, going to a photo service provider will become obsolete from May 1, 2025, so that all necessary steps can be carried out directly in the authority.

Overall, the introduction of PointID® revolutionizes the application process for ID documents and significantly improves security and user-friendliness. Further information is available on the website of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Homeland.
