Microcensus 2024: 50,000 Bavarians need your vote by the end of the year!

The annual microcensus survey is coming up in Bavaria, which will again ask numerous citizens to take part in 2024. This survey, known as a small census, aims to collect important information about the economic and social situation of the population. So far, around 70,000 people in Bavaria have already taken part in the survey, with many of them giving their answers by telephone. The online option is also very popular.

Participation in the microcensus is crucial because the data collected serves as a basis for political decisions. Around 50,000 people still need to be contacted by the end of the year in order to fulfill their obligation to provide information. A total of 120,000 citizens in Bavaria are scheduled for the survey, which corresponds to one percent of the population.

How does the survey work?

The selection of households to be surveyed is carried out using a mathematical-statistical random procedure. First, certain buildings or parts of buildings are selected before volunteer survey officers identify the households using the doorbells. These representatives can identify themselves with an ID card to confirm their role.

After selection, households receive an official letter from the Bavarian State Office for Statistics informing them about the survey. You will be asked to answer the questions either in a telephone interview or via an online survey. Around 130 trained survey officers are available across Bavaria for the telephone interviews, who ensure that the data is recorded correctly.

So far, around 70,000 of the 120,000 people selected for the 2024 microcensus have provided their information. The majority of respondents did so by telephone, while a significant proportion preferred the online option. The traditional paper questionnaire is increasingly being used less frequently.
