25 years of Rodinger City Archives: A look into the history of our city

The city of Roding is celebrating a special anniversary. The city archive is 25 years old. Its task is to preserve the history of the city. Many authentic documents are stored in the basement of the town hall. These show the social life of Roding over many centuries.

The archive was returned to the town hall in 1998. The archive material was previously in the state archives in Amberg. The official handover took place on December 17, 1999. Today the archive offers a wealth of material for local history research. Important documents, such as registry office information since 1876, can be found there.

The oldest piece in the archive is a document from 1472. The thickest book is the “History of the Roding Market” by Karl Schwarzfischer and Ludwig Dieß.

Open House

To mark the anniversary, the archive is holding an open day on Sunday, December 8th from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The archivist, Ms. Monika Simmeth, leads through the archive. She answers questions and translates old documents. Old newspapers, the first Golden Book of the city of Roding and the “Schandgeige” are on display. Visitors can also see models of various buildings in the city.

A viewing PC makes it possible to browse through the Generalanzeiger from 1885 to 1936 and the Kreisrundschau/Bayerwald-Echo from 1948 to 1969. There is also a puzzle with ten questions about Roding's story. The best participants will receive a copy of the “History of the Roding Market”. The book is available on this day at a special price of 40 euros. The Rodinger picture calendar 2025 with historical views also costs 19.90 euros.

Lectures in the boardroom

Two lectures will take place in the large meeting room. Speaks at 3 p.mPeter Reidlabout “The Good Old Days”. At 4 p.mHelmut Prommersbergerhis book “Theater History of the City of Roding”, which will be published next year.

During the archive's opening hours, a nativity scene exhibition can be viewed on the first floor of the town hall. The Christmas market is also open. The public is warmly invited to all three events.
