The Importance of Reading Clubs

Reading clubs are central elements in promoting reading in Germany. According to an initiative, around 85,000 children took part in reading club offerings in the first ten years of “Culture Makes You Strong. Alliances for Education”. Many of these children come from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. The Reading Foundation supports up to 400 reading clubs as part of the BMBF program by equipping them with over 500,000 media.

These offerings are not only available in libraries, but also in youth facilities, schools and other places. The aim is to reduce the connection between social background and educational background and to promote reading motivation in children aged 6 to 12. Regular participation in these clubs leads to greater enjoyment of reading, even for weaker readers, and supports the development of social skills.

The Sulzbach-Rosenberg City Library and the participating institutions set important accents in promoting reading and show how crucial the enjoyment of reading is for the development of young people. According to suro.city and These initiatives are a small but significant step towards a reading-loving society.
