Hahnbach celebrates Erwin Stubenvoll: 85 years full of commitment and joy of life!
Erwin Stubenvoll, a valued honorary member of the water rescue service and the Bavarian Red Cross, celebrated his 85th birthday on October 28, 2025. Shaped by a committed life, he was born in Sorghof in 1940 and grew up with his sister Hildegard and his brother Werner. He spent his school days in Neuhaus and Sorghof before starting his professional career as an agricultural machinery mechanic in Vilseck. He worked in the Amberg location administration for over 40 years until his retirement in 2000.
Stubenvoll joined the water rescue service at the age of 12 on January 1, 1952. Through his numerous commitments, including 20 years as chairman, he was eventually named honorary chairman. He is also active in the volunteer fire department, the VdK, the Settlers Association and the Markbläser in Hahnbach. Especially after a recent stroke, Stubenvoll shows an admirable zest for life and attitude and continues to see no reason to give up, which is greatly appreciated by his family and friends.
Family and life experiences
On June 24, 1961, Erwin Stubenvoll married Resi Ertl. Together they raised three daughters: Heidi, Anita and Silvia, and now have three grandchildren: Simone, Simon and Sophia. They built a house at Kellerweg 23, which Stubenvoll built with a lot of their own effort. Stubenvoll's life is not only shaped by family ties, but also by numerous trips through Europe and stops in countries such as Armenia, Kiev, Dubai and Bolivia. His active hobbies include gardening, car maintenance and regular attendance at Sunday services.
At a small celebration, the mayor and other representatives of various organizations honored Stubenvoll, while family, neighbors and friends wished him much joy in life.
Demographic developments
Stubenvoll's busy life is part of a growing trend in Germany, where the labor force participation of older people is steadily increasing. According to destatis.de, the proportion of 60 to 64 year olds who are actively working rose from 53% to 67% between 2014 and 2024. This development is supported by legal changes regarding retirement, which also means for many people of retirement age, like Stubenvoll, the opportunity to actively participate in social life and counteract poverty in old age.
Erwin Stubenvoll's life story symbolizes the challenges and opportunities that many older people experience today. Despite his 85 years, he remains an active part of his community and shows how one can play an important role even in old age.
