In Wörth an der Donau, Laber-Naab Infrastructure GmbH (LNI) has sent all information letters about free fiber optic connections to property owners. This was announced on October 21, 2025. An information event was recently held where citizens had the opportunity to interact directly with LNI planners. Mayor Josef Schütz emphasized the importance of fiber optic expansion for the community. The plan envisages the connection of a total of 1,564 buildings in Wörth, with a quarter of the property owners having already given their consent. Fiber optic expansion is a central element in the modernization of Germany's digital infrastructure. The COVID-19 pandemic and the flood disaster in 2021 showed how important a functioning digital infrastructure is. The fiber optic expansion has already reached 76.5 percent of households with gigabit connections, while over 35 percent of households are equipped with fiber optic connections. According to bundesregierung.de, more than 93 percent of Germany is already covered with 5G by at least one network operator.
