Closing event of the Emil Schicker exhibition: Art and Dementia
On Sunday, September 22nd, 2024, the Lived Museum in Mähring will open its doors for the final event of the “Emil Schicker” picture exhibition. From 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., all art enthusiasts are invited to admire the late artist's works and take part in a special lecture.
The event takes place as part of the Bavarian Dementia Week. Karin Achatz, Emil Schicker's daughter, will give a lecture at 2:30 p.m. on the topic of dementia. Under the title “Creativity knows no illness” she would like to show how her father lived his passion for painting despite his illness. Emil Schicker, who died in 2018 at the age of 92, found a way to express his emotions and thoughts in art, even during his time in a nursing home.
Insights into artistic development
In her lecture, Karin Achatz will not only talk about the challenges that came with the illness, but also about how painting gave her father strength. The pictures on display are an impressive testimony to his artistic development, which was influenced by dementia. Visitors can receive free information material on the subject of dementia to further inform themselves about this important topic.
The museum café will also be open on this day, giving guests the opportunity to relax with a cup of coffee and enjoy the atmosphere of the museum. Registration is not required, which makes it easier to participate in this special event.
The closing event provides a valuable opportunity to explore the connection between art and personal expression while honoring the legacy of Emil Schicker. The event promises to be both informative and inspiring, inviting everyone to experience the power of creativity.
