Fire brigade exercise in Kastl: Mayor praises commitment and cooperation

In Kastl, an impressive fire drill recently took place at the Pusteblume children's home, which brought together emergency services from several surrounding communities. Firefighters from Kastl, Reuth, Unterbruck, Kemnath, Löschwitz, Atzmannsberg, Höflas, Zessau and Burkhardsreuth worked hand in hand to manage a simulated fire event. They had to rescue several people from a heavily smoke-filled building, which underlined the importance of such exercises.

Mayor Hans Walter was visibly impressed by the professionalism and commitment of the firefighters. “It is remarkable to see how well everyone is working together to keep our citizens safe,” he said. The exercise not only provided an opportunity to test operational readiness, but also to gain valuable experience that could be important in an emergency.

Efficient cooperation between fire departments

Firefighters searched the building several times to find the missing people. Meanwhile, other emergency services ensured a stable water supply by laying two hose lines via Egerlandstrasse and Schulstrasse to the children's home. An unexpected problem when extracting water from the cistern showed that unforeseen challenges are also part of such exercises. “We have to be prepared for anything,” emphasized Mayor Walter, who also praised the quick response of the building yard, which will take care of the problem.

In his speech, Walter thanked the fire department commanders Dominik Kugler, Matthias Schinner and Tobias Rodler for their excellent organization of the exercise. “Without their meticulous planning, such a realistic scenario would not have been possible,” he explained. The cooperation between the various fire departments was crucial in quickly rescuing the simulated victims and successfully completing the exercise.

Importance of regular exercises

The mayor emphasized the importance of conducting such exercises regularly. “We have to ensure that our emergency services are optimally prepared,” he said. Walter announced that further exercises are planned in the near future to further strengthen cooperation between the armed forces.

He also thanked the team from the Pusteblume children's home, which took care of feeding the approximately 120 emergency services, as well as the residents for their understanding during the exercise. “It is important that we stand together as a community,” emphasized Walter. However, he regretted that misunderstandings arose when a resident complained about their peace being disturbed.

Overall, the fire drill in Kastl was a great success. “We have shown that our fire departments work together excellently and are well prepared for emergencies,” concluded Mayor Walter. The knowledge gained is used to make future operations even more effective.
