125 years of the railway: festivities in Maxhütte-Haidhof and the surrounding area

A very special event was recently celebrated in Maxhütte-Haidhof: the 125-year history of the branch line that leads from Maxhütte-Haidhof via Teublitz to Burglengenfeld. The station was festively decorated and the atmosphere was one of anticipation as the yellow DLB 001 railcar began its first journey on this historic route. The city colors of green and white decorated the train station, while the youth brass band of the Leonberg Volunteer Fire Department delighted the guests with musical sounds. A highlight was the farewell of the Passau Railway Friends' Vt98 rail bus with the traditional Steigerlied, which is closely linked to the history of Maxhütte-Haidhof.

The trip not only offered the opportunity to experience the route, but also to get into Teublitz. Upon arrival in Burglengenfeld, the guests were welcomed by the melodies of the St. Vitus brass band. The anniversary trip was organized by the “Eisenbahnfreunde Städtedreieck”, who presented an exhibition on the 125-year history of the line in the railway shed in Burglengenfeld. The visitors showed great interest in the historical images and explanations put together by Christopher Petermann and Stefan Zenger. This exhibition also provided a preview of possible future developments should the route be reactivated.

Special activities and challenges

Another exciting element of the celebrations was the trolley ride that led from the former train station in Burglengenfeld to the cement works. During the nine rail bus trips through the city triangle, the wagons were always well filled, which put a satisfied smile on the organizers' faces. The festival was an experience not only for railway lovers, but also for families who could enjoy a journey into the past.

Stefan Zenger from the Eisenbahnfreunde warmly thanked all supporters of the event. The Schwandorf district, the town triangle association and the towns of Burglengenfeld, Teublitz and Maxhütte-Haidhof were particularly highlighted. The municipal utilities and city archives, Heidelberg Materials as the owner of the route and the Bavarian Regional Railway as the operator were also included in the thanks. In addition, the Regensburg tram, Walhalla railway and railway friends e. V. (RSWE) with a stand on site to provide information about their association's work.
