Military exercises in Grafenwöhr: Jets cause noise until October

Things will be lively in Grafenwöhr in the coming days, as the US military has announced that intensive exercises with jets will take place from September 11th to 13th. These activities are part of an exemption granted by the Federal Ministry of Defense. This authorization allows the US military, NATO and other partners to exercise at the training area 24 hours a day until October 31, 2024, including with large-caliber weapon systems.

The official shooting hours at the military training area are usually from 08:00 to 24:00 for ammunition from 20 mm. However, smaller ammunition can be used at any time. The exemption temporarily lifts this regulation, which means that residents must expect increased noise levels.

Increased noise

The military exercises could lead to noticeable noise development in the area. The exact times and locations of the exercises may change depending on weather conditions and instructions from the range coordination department. The U.S. Army Training Command in Grafenwöhr, known as the 7th Army Training Command, asks local residents for their understanding of the upcoming activities.

The command is aware of the possible impact on the population and is making efforts to inform residents about the exercise activities. Military exercises are conducted during daytime and weekdays whenever possible to minimize disruption to citizens. Soldiers from various nations, including the Bundeswehr and NATO partners, are trained at the military training area.
