20 years of city tours in Burglengenfeld: A look at the success story

A very special anniversary is being celebrated in Burglengenfeld: the city tours look back on two decades full of stories and experiences. The idea of offering city tours was brought to life in the summer of 2004 by Petra Meier, the managing director of the adult education center (VHS). Together with Dr. Margit Berwing-Wittl, the museum director at the time, and Gerhard Schneeberger, who was training to be a city guide, an important step was taken to promote tourism in the region.

The first city tours were classic tours in which a city guide explained the fascinating history of Burglengenfeld to the participants. These tours were not only informative but also entertaining. The first thematic tour took place in December 2004, the “Romantic Tour in the Lights of the Old Town”. Over 100 people gathered in the town hall courtyard to enjoy the festive atmosphere and be treated to music and stories.

A variety of themed tours

The positive response to the first tours led Gerhard Schneeberger's team to continually develop new ideas. The first adventure tours included the Punch and Judy tour for children and the night watchman tour. Over the years, numerous new concepts have been implemented, including the popular Rauhnacht tours and special topics such as “Galgenberg – place of execution in the Middle Ages”. The “Plague Tour” and the “Jack the Ripper” and “Life on the River” tours are also very popular.

The city leaders are still motivated and are working on new concepts. A “Kirwabär tour” is currently being worked on, which is scheduled to premiere in October 2025. These tours offer an insight not only into the history, but also into the culture and traditions of the city.

If you would like to find out more about the city tours, you can find out more on the Burglengenfeld city website. There is also the option to book places for the various guided tours. The city tours are an integral part of the cultural offering and invite anyone interested to discover the history of Burglengenfeld in an exciting way.
