Discover the treasures of history: Open Monument Day in the district

On Sunday, September 8th, a very special day will be celebrated in the Regensburg district: Open Monument Day. On this day, visitors have the opportunity to view historic buildings that are normally not or rarely open to the public. It's a great opportunity to experience the region's history and culture up close.

This year's motto "True Signs. Witnesses to History" invites you to explore the meaning of the monuments. These buildings are not only architectural masterpieces, but also living witnesses of bygone times. They tell stories about the people who lived there and the events that happened near them. The monuments act as landmarks and contribute to the region's identity while attracting tourists.

Diverse offers and guided tours

In order to illustrate the importance of the architectural heritage, numerous guided tours will be offered on this day. Expert guides provide information about monument preservation and the stories behind the buildings. The program is varied and offers something for everyone:

In addition, there are special events in many places that make Open Monument Day an unforgettable experience. In Rohrbach, for example, the Maria Hilf mountain church is opening, and in Sünching you can visit a unique local museum housed in former ammunition bunkers.

The Open Monument Day has been taking place in Germany since 1993 and is part of the “European Heritage Days”. It is coordinated by the German Foundation for Monument Protection and enables citizens to discover and appreciate the cultural treasures of their region.
