The weather situation is determined by the cold front of a low over the Arctic Ocean, which is slowly moving east. From the afternoon onwards, some heavy thunderstorms are expected in the south, and heavy thunderstorms are forecast in the middle and east of the country on Friday night. Thunderstorms and squalls

The forecasts report severe squalls that can reach speeds of up to 100 km/h, with isolated hurricane-like gusts even reaching 110 km/h. These strong winds can have massive impacts such as uprooting trees and breaking branches. There is also a risk of hail with a diameter of around 3 cm.

The thunderstorm activity will be noticeable from midday in southwest Germany, where local heavy rain of up to 15 liters per square meter is expected. Later in the day the thunderstorms will spread across southern Baden, Upper Swabia and Middle Franconia. Heavy rain can occur there, which can produce up to 40 liters per square meter in a short time.

The warning reports indicate that local flooding, flooded basements and problems in underpasses may occur in various regions. The flood situation on small rivers could also worsen. The DWD warns that the affected areas shown are only an estimate of the potential. In fact, only some areas are likely to be affected.

A decreasing wind is expected from midday on September 4th, but heavy rain is expected to increase again on Friday in the eastern and southeastern parts of Bavaria. Rainfall amounts of 20 to 35 millimeters could fall here, with the possibility of severe weather rainfall amounts of over 35 millimeters.
