Decisions coming soon: Who will run for the 2026 local elections?
The local elections in Regensburg are approaching on January 14, 2026. The deadline for submitting nominations ended on January 8, 2026 at 6 p.m. Various parties and voter groups have submitted their candidacies. Among the registered parties are the Christian Social Union in Bavaria e.V. (CSU), the FREIE WÄHLER, the Alternative for Germany (AfD), ALLIANCE 90/THE GREENS (GRÜNE), the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), the Ecological Democratic Party as well as non-party environmentalists (ÖDP/PU), the Free Democratic Party (FDP), The Left and the Young Union (JU).
The nominations for the position of district administrator were also submitted. The CSU nominated Patrick Grossmann, a member of the state parliament and district councilor from Sinzing. The FREIEN VÄHLER recommend Tanja Schweiger, a qualified businesswoman and acting district administrator from Pettendorf. Dr. Merten Niebel Schutz from the GREENS, Silvia Gross from the SPD and Daniela Deisenroth from Die Linke are also among the proposed candidates.
Examination of election proposals
At the end of January, the election committee will examine the validity of the submitted election proposals and decide on their approval. After the official announcement, the printing of ballot papers, polling slips and postal voting documents will begin. In order to find out about the details of the election process, Tegernheim recommends visiting the election calendar of the Bavarian State Office for Statistics at www.statistics.bayern.de.

It was also noticed that the 2026 local elections in Neuhof Fulda and the surrounding area also invite citizens to submit suggestions. Citizens there can also take an active part in shaping local representation, as Neuhof-Fulda informs.
Although the local elections take place in different regions, the idea of citizen participation and democratic participation remains a central concern across the board. These elections are a significant opportunity for citizens to participate in the political process and make their voices heard. A wide range of candidates is crucial to ensure a representative selection.
