Traffic chaos on the A3: Important restrictions in September
The Southern Bavaria motorway published an important notice on September 9, 2024, alerting motorists to significant restrictions on the A 3. These restrictions affect the section between the Regensburg-Universität and Regensburg-Ost junctions and have been announced for the weekend of September 13th to 16th, 2024. The work will begin on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. and will continue until Monday morning at 5 a.m.
The reason for these traffic restrictions is the installation of a special noise protection surface, which completes the six-lane expansion of the A 3 near Regensburg. This construction work, which began in February 2018, is planned for a total of four weekends in September and October 2024. The upcoming weekend is the first in this series.
Details about traffic restrictions
In the direction of Passau there will only be one lane on the A 3 this weekend and the speed will be limited to 60 km/h. Between the Regensburg-Universität and Regensburg-Ost junctions, two lanes will be eliminated and the remaining lane will be on the opposite lane.
In addition, the Regensburg-Burgweinting junction in the direction of Passau will be closed for both entry and exit. Drivers coming from Nuremberg and wanting to leave the A 3 at this point must use the Regensburg-Universität junction and follow the U 61a diversion via Franz-Josef-Strauß-Allee. For those who want to get on the A 3 towards Passau, there is a diversion via Landshuter Straße, Odessa-Ring and Max-Planck-Straße to the Regensburg-Ost junction. A detailed detour map is available on the project website.
In the direction of Nuremberg, there are only two lanes available this weekend between the Regensburg-Ost and Regensburg-Universität junctions. There is also a speed limit of 60 km/h and there is a ban on overtaking for trucks, buses and vehicles with trailers. However, entrances and exits at all junctions are possible in this direction of travel.
Weather conditions may affect the execution of the work. The decision as to whether the work can take place as planned will be made on Thursday afternoon, September 12, 2024, based on the weather forecast. This information will also be published on the project website.
Further work is planned for the coming weekends, which will entail similar restrictions. The exact dates and details can be found on the project website, where detour maps are also available for download.
