Traffic chaos on the A3: Important restrictions from September 20th

In a recent announcement dated September 12, 2024, the Southern Bavaria motorway informed about significant traffic restrictions on the A 3. These restrictions will come into effect from approximately 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 20th until approximately 5 a.m. on Monday, September 23rd. The measures are necessary to complete the installation of a special noise protection surface, which is part of the six-lane expansion of the motorway between Nuremberg and Passau.

The first installation date for the noise protection covering was originally scheduled for the weekend of September 13th to 16th. Due to the weather forecast predicting heavy rain during this period, the decision was made to postpone the work for a week. This decision was made by the construction and project management to ensure the quality of the work, as the noise protection covering is very sensitive to weather influences.

Details about traffic restrictions

During the period mentioned, there will be significant restrictions on the A 3 between the Regensburg-Universität and Regensburg-Ost junctions. There will only be one lane available in the direction of Passau and the maximum speed will be limited to 60 km/h. This means that two lanes in this direction are closed and the remaining lane is moved to the oncoming lane.

In addition, the Regensburg-Burgweinting junction in the direction of Passau will be closed for both entry and exit. Road users coming from Nuremberg and wishing to leave the A 3 at this point must use the Regensburg-Universität junction and follow the U 61a diversion via Franz-Josef-Strauß-Allee. To get onto the A 3 in the direction of Passau, the U 65 diversion is available, which leads via Landshuter Straße, Odessa-Ring and Max-Planck-Straße.

In the direction of Nuremberg, only two lanes are available during the work between the Regensburg-Ost and Regensburg-Universität junctions. There is also a speed limit of 60 km/h and there is a ban on overtaking trucks, buses and vehicles with trailers. However, entries and exits at all junctions are still possible.

The Südbayern Autobahn points out that the work depends heavily on the weather conditions. A final decision on whether the work will be carried out will be made on Thursday 19 September and published on the project website. The other planned installation weekends are scheduled for September 27th to 30th, October 11th to 14th and October 18th to 21st, 2024.
