Sinzing networks the future: 8.16 million euros for fast internet!
On September 22, 2025, the Bavarian Minister of Finance and Home Affairs Albert Füracker visited the fiber optic construction site in Viehhausen, located in the municipality of Sinzing. This visit took place at an invitation from state parliament member Patrick Grossmann and served to review the ongoing fiber optic expansion in Sinzing and 21 other districts. The total investment for this important project amounts to 8.16 million euros, of which more than 7 million euros come from federal and state funding. The municipality itself contributes 1.14 million euros.
The planned measures include 760 new house connections, the expansion of a total route of 38,000 meters of unpaved and 15,000 meters of paved civil engineering sections and the laying of more than 380,000 meters of fiber optic cable. As part of the project, 188,600 meters of pipe bundles and the installation of cable and network distribution cabinets will also be realized. This project is part of a larger project that includes a total of 47 municipalities in the Regensburg and Neumarkt districts and is coordinated by the Laber-Naab Infrastructure (LNI).
Promotion and goals of fiber optic expansion
The total investment for the entire project is almost half a billion euros. The Free State of Bavaria is supporting this extensive expansion with 2.2 million euros. The overarching goal is to provide all Bavarian households with gigabit-level Internet access. Since digital investments began in Bavaria, over 2.6 billion euros have now been invested in digital expansion, which has led to the laying of more than 107,000 kilometers of fiber optics.
Once the fiber optic projects are completed, it is predicted that 82% of Bavarian households will have a gigabit-capable internet connection. Mayor Martin Brix explained that the expansion should be completed by the end of 2026 and that the collaboration with Walter Bauer GmbH & Co. KG is running smoothly. In addition to Füracker, the mayors Josef Bauer, Patrick Grossmann, Markus Artmann and Matthias Bauer also took part in the event.
Digital infrastructure in Bavaria
The current fiber optic expansion in Sinzing is part of the Bavarian program to improve the digital infrastructure, which is also subject to the Bavarian Gigabit Directive (BayGibitR) and the Gigabit Directive 2.0. These guidelines, which came into effect in March 2020 and March 2023, were developed to address existing internet coverage shortages and support digital connectivity in underserved areas. Municipalities can apply for funding until September 30, 2025, and in many cases the funding rates are between 80% and 90%.
In addition, the Bavarian authorities offer numerous municipalities support in expanding and building new digital infrastructure. The Bavarian Broadband Center, for example, helps both municipalities and citizens to take advantage of the opportunities offered by broadband expansion. In Bavaria, over 70% of addresses currently have access to gigabit-capable infrastructure, and there are also initiatives such as BayernWLAN that support municipalities in providing free internet access.
The fiber optic expansion in Sinzing therefore represents an important step towards a comprehensive digital future. With a strategic investment of considerable size, the aim is to improve the Internet connection for all citizens and to lead Bavaria into the digital future.
