Georgine Wandinger: Bavarian decorations for her tireless commitment!

On January 19, 2026, the New Year's reception took place in the municipality of Sinzing, at which the first mayor Martin Brix honored the special successes of citizens over the past year. A central theme was the honoring of Ms. Georgine Wandinger, who was awarded the Bavarian Prime Minister's Decoration of Honor for her voluntary work. The award was presented to her on October 31, 2025 by Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann in the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg.

Ms. Wandinger has been involved in the Viehhausen library for 29 years now and has headed this institution since 2006. Her voluntary work includes around 20 hours per week, which she does together with 25 other volunteers. Their tasks include organizing events, designing posters and holding book flea markets and summer holiday reading clubs. She also takes care of the selection and cataloging of new books and compiles statistics.

Particular successes of the Viehhausen library

The Viehhausen library has achieved remarkable success in recent years under the leadership of Georgine Wandinger. In 2007 the institution received the EON Children's Library Prize and a prize of 5,000 euros. In 2023, the library was awarded the “Bookmark 2023” by Bayernwerk as well as a media voucher worth 1,000 euros. The library currently manages a total of 9,400 media and has 419 active readers.

Wandinger always emphasizes the importance of teamwork for the success of the library and interactions with various partners. She works closely with the parish council and the local political community to organize projects to promote reading for children and young people as well as readings for adults. The recognition by Interior Minister Herrmann, who recognized the honorees' commitment as important for society, reflects the high regard for Ms. Wandinger's work.

In addition to Mayor Martin Brix, the well-wishers also included Mayors Josef Espach and Thomas Schwindl. The Regensburg diocesan office in the diocese of Regensburg also congratulated Wandinger and acknowledged her long-standing commitment to library work, which is of great importance for the entire community.
