Repair Café Neutraubling: Together against the throwaway society
There is now an exciting initiative in Neutraubling that is dedicated to repairing everyday objects. The new repair café, which was launched by the urban development project office, offers a platform to get broken equipment and clothing back into shape. Instead of simply throwing things away, citizens can bring their broken treasures and let experienced volunteers help them.
The concept is simple and sustainable: every first Saturday of the month, people have the opportunity to bring their portable electrical devices such as radios, televisions or irons, as well as damaged clothing, for repair. The repairs are done on a donation basis, meaning everyone can give whatever they can. While they wait for repairs, visitors can relax with coffee and cake or chat with others.
A place of meeting
First Mayor Harald Stadler is enthusiastic about this new contact point. “The repair café is a great idea,” he says. “It not only conserves our resources, but also provides another place for citizens to meet and exchange ideas.” The initiative not only promotes sustainability, but also a sense of community in the city.
Nine volunteers have already come forward to contribute their skills. “It’s great that the project is so well received,” says Stadler happily. Anyone who is also interested in getting involved is warmly invited. Thomas Kästle from the Urban Development Project Office explains: "We are still looking for volunteers who are skilled in crafts, know how to use household appliances or simply enjoy tinkering. Those who like to bake or would like to help with the organization are also welcome."
The Repair Café will open its doors for the first time on Saturday, October 5th, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. It is located in the lunchtime care room in the Schlesische Straße 46 shop center in Neutraubling. Anyone who has questions or would like to get involved can call 09401/9570214 or send an email to stadtentwicklung@neutraubling.net turn around.
