Construction work on Schönach's main street: How residents are affected!

The expansion of the main street in Schönach is progressing quickly. Earthworks are currently taking place there for street lighting and the installation of power and telecommunications connections. These measures are essential for a comprehensive modernization of the road, which will benefit residents and road users. The next step will be particularly important: work on the edge edging and the road case will begin on Monday, October 20, 2025. This will further influence traffic flow in the region.

Due to this work, Schönach will not be directly accessible from the B8 federal highway until the asphalting work is completed. The area of the main street from the Pfarrerbrücke to the junction with the Auweg is expected to be completely closed until mid-November. Residents are therefore advised to only approach Schönach via the “Kreuzweg” community road from Haimbuch or the “Alte B8” from Rain. This diversion could cause potential delays that will impact transportation for many affected.

Blocking and accessibility

In addition, there was already a complete closure of the main road in Schönach from October 7th to 9th, 2025. During these days, access from the B8 federal road, both via the Pfarrerbrücke and the Auweg, was not possible. However, during the closure, public transport buses and residents had access to their homes via the diversion routes mentioned above. The municipality also thanked residents and road users for their understanding, as such construction work is always associated with disruptions.

For many, the upcoming church parade on October 19th, on the occasion of the bishop's visit, is of particular importance. This takes place despite the existing lockdown and offers believers the opportunity to take part in the tradition, even if accessibility is limited. On All Saints' Day there will be a temporary option to get to the Mass in St. Martin's Church by car from the village street over the Pastor's Bridge, which should enable residents to take part in this important event.

The municipality of Schönach would once again like to thank all road users and residents for their understanding as the construction work progresses. These measures are necessary to sustainably improve the infrastructure and optimize the traffic flow in the region in the long term.
