Current weather conditions and warnings
According to information from Weatherhazards.de A weather warning was put into effect on September 3, 2025 at 8:00 p.m. On the edge of a strong low near the British Isles, warm, moist air is being transported to Germany, resulting in sometimes violent thunderstorms and heavy rain. Isolated strong thunderstorms are expected this evening and into the night, particularly in the west and northwest.
The risk of storms is increasing, with gusts of up to 80 km/h (Bft 9). In some regions, such as Baden-Württemberg, isolated thunderstorms can initially be expected, which will then spread to the center of the country. Local heavy rain amounts of up to 15 l/sqm and stiff gusts of up to 60 km/h can occur. In the late afternoon and evening, some severe thunderstorms are also expected in southern Baden, Upper Swabia, the Alb, the Allgäu and Middle Franconia, with heavy rain of up to 40 l/sqm and hurricane-like gusts of up to 110 km/h (Bft 11).
Long-term preparations for natural events
The challenges posed by weather phenomena such as floods and storms are also the subject of the German Weather Service's initiatives. Like on the website DWD described, the natural hazards portal was created to act as a central contact point for current warnings, risk information and prevention measures.
The portal brings together information about weather extremes such as heavy rain, storms and floods in a user-friendly, barrier-free platform. Interactive maps enable individual risk assessment and provide information about natural hazards in Germany as well as tips for precaution. Homeowners, for example, can learn how to take protective measures through the flood warnings provided.
The natural hazards portal is the result of collaboration between various federal and state authorities and thus ensures comprehensive provision of information. Future expansions that would also include other natural hazards such as forest fires or earthquakes are also being considered.
