Lappersdorf starts survey: Young people shape their future!
The Lappersdorf market is taking a decisive step towards strengthening the participation of young people. From now on, young people between the ages of 12 and 17 can take part in a survey that records their views and wishes about offers in the community. The survey is anonymous and contributes to the creation of a youth community council that will represent the interests of this age group. Participation and applications for the youth council are open untilNovember 28, 2025possible, as lappersdorf.de reports.
The market town council has onJuly 8, 2025unanimously approved a motion to establish the youth community council. This application was initiated by the Free Voters Lappersdorf faction. The youth community council is intended to enable young people to gain insight into democratic processes and to take responsibility for the community. The support for this initiative is reflected in the positive feedback from all parliamentary groups and the First Mayor, as fw-lappersdorf.de explains.
Structure and election procedures
The youth council's plans call for 15 members between the ages of 12 and 17 to be sought. If there are more interested parties, an election will be held. The youth council meetings are scheduled to take place every two months. Details of the structure, including electoral procedures and budget, are currently being worked out by a working group that includes representatives from all political groups and the administration.
Young people who are interested in becoming a member of the youth council can register by email with their contact details by November 28, 2025. The contact persons are Christian Hauner, First Mayor, and members of the working group: Christian Reinwald, Katja Stegbauer, Christa Wunderer and Robert Wachtveitl, as can also be read on fw-lappersdorf.de.
Participation and co-determination
The introduction of a youth local council is part of a larger trend in Germany aimed at increasing the participation of children and young people in local decision-making processes. In Baden-Württemberg, children and young people have had a say in matters that affect them since 2015, as [lpb-bw.de](https://www.lpb-bw.de/kinder-jugend participation) highlights. The number of municipalities with youth participation formats increased from 53% in 2018 to 68% in 2024.
Youth engagement and advocacy are critical to developing an active and democratic culture in the community. The creation of the youth community council in Lappersdorf offers a valuable platform to hear the voices of young people and bring their ideas into local decision-making processes.
