Go to school safely with high-visibility vests: Kallmünzer first graders protected

The summer holidays are over and for many children a new phase of life begins: school. This transition is exciting and challenging, especially for the first graders who are now diving into the world of learning as ABC shooters. To ensure that the little ones are well protected and visible on their way to school, the Kallmünz school association has launched an important initiative.

When school starts, the new students receive special high-visibility vests that are intended to increase their visibility in traffic. This measure is particularly important as the days are getting shorter and visibility is often poor in the coming months. Simone Reinhardt, the managing director of the Upper Palatinate Municipal Traffic Safety Association, presented some alarming figures: "Children in dark clothing can hardly be seen by drivers after just 25 meters. However, if they wear light-colored clothing, they are visible up to 40 meters, and with reflective clothing even up to 150 meters."

Important safety measures

The eye-catching high-visibility vests provided to first graders are a simple but effective way to reduce the risk of accidents. These vests, together with reflectors and flashing lapel lights, ensure that children are more visible to other road users. The school association emphasizes that not only children, but also drivers must take more responsibility in road traffic.

“Over half of accidents on the way to school happen in the dark season between October and March,” warns Reinhardt. It is therefore particularly important that drivers drive with foresight and at an appropriate speed to ensure the safety of children. The school association appeals to all road users to be careful and protect the little ABC shooters.

With these measures, the school association hopes that all students can get to school and back home safely. The high-visibility vests are a step in the right direction to increase the safety of the youngest on the road.
