TenneT starts environmental studies for new power line in Schwandorf!
TenneT TSO GmbH has announced plans for the replacement construction of a 220/380 kV line from Schwandorf to Pleinting. Loud bernhardswald.de The formal approval process is currently being prepared, while environmental mapping to assess local habitats for nature conservation and species protection is being started. This mapping in the section between Schwandorf and the Schwandorf/Regensburg district border will begin on November 24th, 2025 and should be completed by February 15th, 2026.
It is particularly important that the mapping process is adapted to the life cycles of flora and fauna, which requires flexible handling. The work is being carried out by the nature conservation and environmental planning office Natur Denken GmbH. It should be noted that agricultural, private and public paths must be used for the mapping and, in individual cases, private property must be entered. Heavy machinery is not used in these environmental surveys; the work is carried out on foot or by vehicle on paths.
Scope of surveys
The ecological surveys include the recording of biotope trees, nest trees, occurring animal species as well as biotope and usage types. Visual observations and inspections are supplemented with vegetation photographs and photo documentation. This ensures that all relevant ecological aspects are taken into account in the planning. The legal basis for this preparatory work is Section 44 Paragraph 1 Sentence 1 of the Energy Industry Act (EnWG), which regulates the framework conditions for the implementation of such measures.
Owners or authorized users of the affected properties are obliged to tolerate the necessary preparatory work in order not to hinder the progress of the planning. Daniel Wölki is available to answer any questions regarding the project.
Additional projects in the region
At the same time, TenneT is planning to build another 380 kV line, which will be around 6.5 kilometers long. The starting point of this new line is at the Altheim substation, with the end point at the Isar switchgear in the Landshut district, as shown on government.niederbayern.bayern.de is reported. This line is largely laid as an underground cable, with only the start and end points being overhead lines.
The plan approval for this project is carried out in accordance with Section 43 Paragraph 1 Sentence 1 Nos. 1 and 4 EnWG. The planning documents were already publicly displayed in September and October 2024, and after objections and comments were taken into account, the documents were partially changed, which requires a new interpretation.
The new lines are intended to carry the existing two circuits of the 110 kV line from Bayernwerk Netz GmbH. With the commissioning of the new pipeline, the dismantling of the existing pipeline is also planned.
These projects are part of a comprehensive effort to modernize Germany's energy infrastructure and promote renewable energy, with TenneT positioning itself as an operator of electricity supply networks in a changing energy sector.
