A significant step in the development of local child care was recently taken in Bernhardswald. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Johanniter crèche marks the beginning of a project that aims to significantly expand the range of childcare places available for the youngest children. Not only those responsible for the community were present on this solemn occasion, but also the children from the existing crèche, who removed the first sand with great joy and enthusiasm.

The new facility will not only accommodate the existing two groups, but also create space for a third group. Daycare director Anna Deißler expressed optimism about the upcoming changes and is looking forward to being able to look after a total of three groups, each with twelve children, once the construction work is completed. This is an important step in meeting the increasing need for childcare places in the community.

Background and necessity of the new building

The Johanniter crèche was originally housed in the neighboring kindergarten “Unterm Himmelszelt”. Due to the growing lack of space, part of the crèche had to move to a temporary building in November 2021. The new building is now urgently needed to provide the children with an appropriate and safe environment.

Mayor Florian Obermeier, who advocated for a special date for the children's groundbreaking ceremony, emphasized the importance of this project for the community. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on August 5th, but without the children as the holiday season did not allow this. Today's celebration with the children shows how important early childhood education and care is for the community.

The Johanniter, as the sponsor of the new facility, strives to ensure high-quality care. The new building not only meets the space requirements, but also creates a modern environment that meets the needs of the children. There is great anticipation for the new premises and those responsible are confident that the construction work will progress quickly.
