Construction site at the Regensburg motorway junction: traffic restrictions from September 29th!

Today, September 25, 2025, preparatory work on the replacement construction of the Regensburg motorway interchange begins. According to the Barbing local government Most of the work is carried out at night so as not to disrupt rush hour traffic. The traffic restrictions for citizens will begin on September 29th and last until mid-October 2025, with alternating closures of crossings between the A3 and A93 expected between 5 p.m. and 6 a.m. on weekdays.

Detours are signposted daily on LED displays. These renovations are necessary due to the worn asphalt surfaces, which were subject to heavy traffic. The intersection structure, which consists of four substructures with two lanes each, has been in operation since 1965 and now needs to be renewed due to its structural condition.

Clearing work and temporary bridges

In addition to the asphalt work, clearing work will be necessary until the end of February 2026. Construction work on a temporary temporary bridge will begin in mid-2026, while the intersection structure will be replaced one after the other so as not to significantly disrupt traffic flow. Renewals are also planned for the Regensburg-Kumpfmühl underpasses, with structure 34 already being secured with auxiliary supports and further exploratory drilling planned from October 2025.

The aim of this extensive work is to minimize construction-related traffic restrictions on the A93 in order to ensure the mobility of citizens even during the construction phase. Further information about the measures is available on the website www.autobahnen-regensburg.de available.

Federal funding for highway renovation

In order to further strengthen the infrastructure, the federal government recently provided extensive financial resources for the renovation of the motorway networks. According to a press release from the Federal Ministry of Finance The budget committee of the German Bundestag approved 1.1 billion euros for Autobahn GmbH. This decision allows contracts to be awarded and important construction work to continue.

The funds come from the new special fund for infrastructure and climate protection (SVIK) and are intended to provide a total of 166 billion euros for the modernization of transport infrastructure by 2029. This program aims to improve important transport axes such as the A7 and A3, which not only ensures connection quality but also secures jobs in the construction industry.

With these measures, the federal government will ensure that the transport infrastructure in Germany is fit for the future and serves both the requirements of drivers and economic needs.
