Microcensus 2024: 60,000 households in Bavaria called upon to participate!
A major survey known as the 2024 Microcensus begins in Bavaria. This annual household survey is the largest of its kind in Germany and is carried out by the Bavarian State Office for Statistics. From January to December, around 60,000 households in Bavaria will be surveyed to collect important information about the living conditions of citizens. The data collected is crucial for political decisions that affect the lives of all citizens.
The Bavarian State Office for Statistics has called on citizens to take part in this important survey. The microcensus, which means “small census”, is a legally required survey that has been carried out since 1957. One percent of the population is surveyed in order to obtain a comprehensive picture of the economic and social situation in Germany.
Details about the survey
A total of around 120,000 people from 60,000 households in Bavaria will be surveyed. Households are selected using a mathematical random process that ensures that the survey is representative. Trained survey officers will visit the households and identify themselves as representatives of the Bavarian State Office with an ID card. The surveys are designed so that they can be carried out up to four times over a maximum period of five years in order to document changes over time.
The selected households receive a written information letter informing them about the microcensus. Participation takes place either by telephone or online and all data collected is subject to strict data protection regulations. The information is anonymized and only published in aggregated form so that the privacy of the participants is preserved.
