Winter service obligation: How to secure sidewalks in our community
We remind all residents of public streets, paths and squares of their winter maintenance obligations. Winter service is important for traffic safety in our town. Everyone can contribute.
According to the legal provisions, the front and rear residents of properties are obliged to maintain the sidewalks of the public roads adjacent to their property or which indirectly access their property in a safe condition at their own expense. The Cleaning and safety regulations regulates the details.
Winter service times
The sidewalks must be cleared of snow and ice during the following times: on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., on Sundays and public holidays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
If there is snow, frost or ice, please sprinkle with sand, grit or other blunting agents. During the above period, repeat the safety measures as often as necessary to prevent danger. Store the cleared snow or ice residue so that it does not obstruct traffic. Be sure to keep drains, hydrants, sewer inlets and pedestrian crossings clear. Snow must not be brought onto the road from courtyard entrances or the areas in front of garages, as this will cause traffic disruptions.
Winter service is a civic duty. Failure to comply can result in fines of up to 500 euros. By completing this task, you will also protect yourself from any private claims for damages.
