Remembrance Day Commemorations: Remembering and Honoring Together

On the occasion of Remembrance Day, three commemorations for the dead of both world wars will take place in Northern Upper Palatinate. The events are an opportunity to remember the fallen and to pause together. The municipalities cordially invite all citizens to take part in these important celebrations.

Commemorations in Gmünd, Grafenwöhr and Hütten

The first celebration will take place in Gmünd on Sunday, November 10, 2024. At 8:30 a.m. the participants meet at the association house for the church procession. The service begins at 8:45 a.m. in the “Herz Mariä” branch church. This is followed by a silent march to the memorial stone.

The memorial service will be held in Grafenwöhr on Sunday, November 17, 2024. The meeting point is at 8:45 a.m. at Marienplatz. The service starts at 9 a.m. in the old parish church “Mariä Himmelfahrt”. After the service there will be a silent march to the war memorial at the town hall, followed by a memorial service with a joint wreath-laying ceremony.

The last celebration will take place in Hütten on Sunday, November 24th, 2024. The participants meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Schönberger inn for the church procession. The service begins at 8:45 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church. Here too there is a silent march to the war memorial.

The commemorations offer an important opportunity to grieve together and remember the victims of the wars.
