Redesign of the city center: construction work will start in September 2024
The city of Parsberg has big plans for the redesign of its city center, which have been discussed for years. The first construction work began on Dr.-Boecale-Straße on November 14, 2022, and now the second construction phase is imminent on Marktstraße and Stadtplatz. Work in these areas is scheduled to start in September 2024.
The structural transformation of the city center is an issue that has been bothering citizens for a long time. An architectural competition was held back in the 1990s to explore the potential of the city center. The planning was revived in 2016 and 2017, when various interest groups were invited to the castle hall to express their ideas and wishes. These discussions led to comprehensive documentation of the requirements for the future city center. However, the plans had to be postponed again and again due to construction work on the railway bridge.
Progress in the city center
In 2021, the redesign of the city center was put back on the agenda. The city was able to complete the tender and award of construction contracts in 2022. The first plans for Dr. Boecale Street were presented at a citizens' meeting, which also included traffic reports and design principles. Preparatory measures began in the last quarter of 2022, which resulted in a temporary closure of the city center in order to lay lines and check house connections.
The actual construction work began in March 2023, which is intended to give Dr. Boecale Street a new look. The planners incorporated the citizens' wishes from previous years into the implementation. A central concern is to improve the quality of stay for all age groups. The city is supposed to become greener, which poses a challenge for planners as they also have to take into account the traffic situation, parking options and safety.
On March 9, 2023, the different planning variants were presented to the city council. A citizen information event on March 16 gave citizens the opportunity to find out about the plans. Mr. Wirzmüller from the Freiraumarchitekten planning office presented the suggestions, which included, among other things, greening the street lamps and using flowering plants to brighten up the street side.
Variants of space design
The previous plans show that the city center is heavily influenced by traffic. A historical center, as can be seen in the cadastre from 1882, no longer exists. The city plans to improve the parking situation, with 26 parking spaces needed in the city center. The variants presented for space design are:
- Variante 1: „2 Plätze im Norden“ – Zwei Plätze vor der Raiffeisenbank und dem Hirschenhotel.
- Variante 2: „Großer Platz im Norden“ – Verbindung zur Schrettenbrunner Straße entlang der Raiffeisenbank.
- Variante 3: „Großer Platz im Süden“ – Fahrbahn entlang der Raiffeisenbank und dem Hirschenhotel, mit einem Platz bei der Kapelle.
The city administration asks citizens to understand the possible disruption and noise during construction work. The redevelopment of the city center is a long-term project that aims to increase the quality of life in the city and make the city center more attractive.
