A new path in faith: Ludwig Salzberger is baptized

On Saturday morning, little Ludwig, the first child of Christine Salzberger and Rudolf Kager from Cham, received the sacrament of baptism in the Walting branch church. Pastor Joseph Kata welcomes the baptismal community at the entrance. He is pleased that his parents have decided to let Ludwig become part of the large Catholic religious community.

Solemn ceremony

In the baptismal promise, the parents and godfather emphasize that they will accompany little Ludwig on his life's journey and open the door to the Holy Church for him. This is followed by a reading from the letter to the Ephesians, a speech and a litany with intercessions. Pastor Kata puts the person being baptized at the center of his speech. He particularly focuses on the meaning of the angel. “We Christians should also be angels to one another and look out for one another,” he says.

In the intercessions, blessings are requested for the child in many ways. It is desired that Ludwig grows and thrives with regard to the various sensory organs. The ceremonial baptism takes place at the baptismal font on the arm of the godfather Thomas Salzberger. After Ludwig is anointed with chrism, the believers sing the baptismal covenant song.

Traditions and Blessings

After the baptismal candle is handed over, the father lights it from the Easter candle. The blessing of the baptism chain should also not be missing. Finally, the baptismal community prays “Hail, Mary” so that Ludwig stays healthy. Sophia Bücherl will provide the musical accompaniment to the baptismal celebration on the organ.
