Traffic disruptions on the B85: road renewal between Roding and Cham

From September 2, 2024, the southern carriageway of federal highway 85 between the Untertraubenbach and Cham-Süd junctions will be comprehensively renovated. During this time, traffic will be diverted onto the northbound carriageway, meaning motorists will face some restrictions. The work is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of October 2024.

The detour to the northbound carriageway brings with it some important changes. Here are the details:

Traffic restrictions and diversions

• Auf der Nordfahrbahn steht in beiden Fahrtrichtungen nur eine Spur zur Verfügung. Die Geschwindigkeit wird auf 70 km/h begrenzt, und Überholen ist nicht erlaubt.
• Die Ausfahrt an der Anschlussstelle Wetterfeld bleibt von Roding kommend möglich, jedoch ist die Einfahrt in Richtung Cham nicht gestattet. Eine Umleitung führt über die Gemeindeverbindungsstraße Wulfing – Untertraubenbach – Thierlstein – Ried a. Pfahl – Michelsdorf – Altenmarkt nach Cham.
• Die Anschlussstelle Untertraubenbach wird vollständig gesperrt. Weder Ausfahrten noch Einfahrten sind hier möglich. Die Umleitung erfolgt über Wetterfeld und die Gemeindeverbindungsstraße nach Untertraubenbach oder über Thierlstein nach Cham.
• Auch die Anschlussstelle Cham-West ist komplett gesperrt. Die Umleitung für die Ausfahrt erfolgt über Chammünster zurück zur Anschlussstelle Cham-West, während die Einfahrt über Michelsdorf nach Cham möglich ist.
• Die Ausfahrt von der Bundesstraße 85 zum Kreisverkehr bei Cham-Süd ist ebenfalls gesperrt, die Einfahrt auf die B 20 bleibt jedoch offen. Hier wird der Verkehr zur Anschlussstelle Cham-Süd zurückgeleitet.
• Die Überleitung von der Süd- auf die Nordfahrbahn erfolgt östlich der Anschlussstelle Wetterfeld, wobei die Geschwindigkeit im Überleitungsbereich auf 30 km/h begrenzt ist.

The construction work, which is being carried out by the Guggenberger company from Mintraching, has a contract volume of around 1.2 million euros. The damaged surface layer is first milled off and replaced with a new asphalt surface.

A special feature of this construction project is the use of temperature-reduced asphalt. This is produced at around 30 °C lower temperatures than conventional asphalt, which not only improves occupational safety, but also protects the environment as fewer fumes and aerosols are released.

Those responsible ask road users to understand the unavoidable disruptions and to be particularly careful in the construction zone, where only single-lane driving is possible. Everyone involved is doing everything they can to complete the work quickly and to keep the disruption as low as possible.
