New head of operations for civil protection in Sulzbach-Rosenberg!

On November 28th, 2025, the city of Sulzbach-Rosenberg introduced a new employee for the civil protection and fire department: Mr. Stefan Streher. The Rosenberg native, who is married, took up his position on October 1st, 2025 and works in Department I – Main and Legal Department. Mayor Stefan Frank initiated this new position to improve standards and processes in civil protection.

Mr. Streher can look back on almost 25 years of experience in the Schwabach rescue control center and the integrated control center for Middle Franconia South. He was deputy manager there for over 18 years. In his new role, his goal is to promote coordination between all agencies involved in emergency response and to ensure emergency planning for the entire city. With these qualifications, he brings the necessary expertise to make a significant contribution at a time when effective emergency management systems are becoming increasingly important.

The role of the integrated control center

An important interface in his work will be the Integrated Control Center (ILS) Middle Franconia-South in Schwabach. Since 2012, this has been the central operations center for alerting emergency services and the fire department and processes emergency calls from around 260,000 residents in several districts. The ILS coordinates a total of 271 fire departments and 14 rescue service locations and thus offers comprehensive support for the entire region.

The tasks of the ILS include, among other things, receiving all emergency calls and alerting the necessary emergency services, from fire departments to disaster control organizations. Special procedures are used to give people who are hard of hearing and deaf the opportunity to request help. Emergency calls can also be made using the “Nora” emergency call app.

In his new role, Mr. Streher will also be concerned with further strengthening the collaboration with the various organizations within the ILS. It is intended to improve emergency planning and support efficient operations management by presenting a comprehensive situation picture and coordinating the documentation of operations. Mayor Stefan Frank and Head of Human Resources Roland Maul wish him good luck in his new job, which is crucial for the city's population protection.

More information about the tasks of the ILS and their importance for citizens can be found on the website of the BRK South Franconia as well as the Bavarian Red Cross be read.
