Road safety context
The importance of a safe transport infrastructure is underlined by the current traffic situation in Germany. According to that Federal Environment Agency Traffic volumes have increased significantly since 1960, resulting in enormous environmental pollution. Motorized transport causes around a fifth of greenhouse gas emissions in Germany and therefore requires urgent measures to reduce these emissions.
The federal government plans to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector by 2030 in order to create a greenhouse gas-neutral transport system in the long term. This includes not only technical solutions, but also strategic measures such as changing settlement and transport planning and implementing sustainable modes of transport.
The Bavarian Road Safety Award offers a platform to promote promising approaches in this area and to ensure mobility while taking ecological and social aspects into account. Further information about participation is available on the website Insurance Chamber Foundation available.
