Hope for those in need: Amberger Tafel receives a donation of 580 euros!

On October 27, 2025, a moving ecumenical service took place in the Hahnbach community, where Deacon Dieter Gerstacker warmly welcomed the Protestant dean Ulrike Dittmar and the Catholic priest Michael Birner. The central theme of the event was “Together in Search of Hope”. The service was musically accompanied by the Rosenberg-Poppenricht trombone choir under the direction of Kurt Lehnerer.

A significant element of the evening was the collection that was collected for the Amberger Tafel. In his speech, Deacon Gerstacker pointed out the increase in the number of needy people in Germany. The head of the Amberger Tafel, Bernhard Saurenbach, thanked those present for the generous donation of 580 euros, which will be used to support their work.

The Amberger Tafel and its important role

The Amberger Tafel is part of the umbrella organization Tafel Deutschland and has existed for 19 years. It employs 85 volunteers who make a crucial contribution to caring for people in need. These helpers distribute food to around 1,000 demonstrably eligible people two days a week. What is impressive is that the oldest employee of the food bank is 91 years old and four people have been actively serving for over 20 years.

The food bank is financed primarily through donated food and financial donations. The company relies on the support of private individuals and companies, as government funds are only used for special projects. Ongoing costs such as rent, vehicles, repairs and insurance must be covered by these donations. The food banks collect food from retailers and distribute it to people affected by poverty. This is done through a network of over 970 food banks, which represents Tafel Deutschland.
