Starting school in Hahnbach: An unforgettable first day of school!
On September 22, 2025, a festive service to enroll the new first graders took place in the parish church in Hahnbach. Pastor Michael Birner led the service, which began with warm greetings and a special atmosphere. Petra Ligensa, the new principal of the Max Prechtl School, welcomed the newly minted ABC shooters into the school community.
The celebrations included several contributions from the senior students. The children from the second and fourth grades sang the song “The Big Day” while the third graders recited a poem. A highlight of the event was the calling of the names of the new students, who ceremoniously walked through a school cone gate. There they were greeted with a warm handshake by teachers Andrea Großmann and Kerstin Arnold.
School enrollment and compulsory schooling
In order to start school at the Max Prechtl School, children must turn six years old by September 30, 2023 (born by September 30, 2017). Children who turn six between July 1st and September 30th have the option of starting school as part of a “corridor regulation”. These children go through the school enrollment process like everyone else, with the school advising their legal guardians and making a recommendation for school enrollment. The decision as to whether school enrollment will be postponed to the 2023/24 or 2024/25 school year lies with the legal guardians. Notification of the postponement must be made by April 11, 2023 at the latest, as an extension of the deadline is not possible.
Parents also have the option of requesting a deferral from the school if the requirements are met. Information about school enrollment can also be found on the school homepage.
Diversity of primary schools
In principle, primary school is open to all children, regardless of personal requirements. All state and state-recognized primary schools in Bavaria follow the same curriculum, which is intended to ensure equal opportunities. There are no special schools for gifted children in primary school. Parents who would like to take their child's special talents into account should inform the school management or advisory teachers.
It is also possible to be registered at schools with the “Flexible Primary School” school profile. Such forms offer an individualized learning opportunity for the entry level and enable mixed-age classes. These use the differences between the children to learn together, so that students can complete the entry level flexibly in one, two or three years. Further information and support on this topic is available on the website of the Bavarian Ministry of Culture.
The school enrollment event ended with parents being invited to a cake buffet while the children went to their new classrooms. Principal Petra Ligensa wished the students a good start, a lot of fun learning, a willingness to make mistakes and make new friends in order to have a wonderful time at school.
