Altötting celebrates its anniversary: 85 new trees for a better urban climate

The city of Altötting is celebrating two anniversaries. To mark 125 years of city elevation, the district town awarded tree sponsorships last year. In addition, First Mayor usesStephan Antwerphis 60th birthday to collect donations for tree planting. There are a total of 85 trees.

Planting trees in the city area

In November and December 2024, the Kreuzer tree nursery from Tittmoning will plant the trees in the city area. The city council will determine the locations at its September meeting. These include, among others, St. Georgenstrasse, Waldschmidstrasse and Schillerstrasse, Moosackerweg and the nature kindergarten. Unterholzhausenstrasse, Chiemgaustrasse and Sickenbachstrasse are also there. Other locations include Traunsteiner Straße, Bahnhofplatz, Dultplatz and Wöhrstraße. Pater-Joseph-Anton-Straße, Dr.-Hiemer-Straße, Holzhauser Straße, Trostberger Straße and Hüttenberger Weg will also be planted. Reinhold-Zellner-Straße, Max-Storfinger-Straße, Herrenmühlstraße, the city library, the playgrounds on Dr.-Pfennigmann-Straße, Eschbachstraße and Josef-Kehrer-Straße as well as the multi-generation park, Hofmark and the Griesstraße car park are also planned.

Depending on the site conditions, different types of trees are planted. These include tree hazel, zelkove, elm, sweetgum, wild pear, hawthorn, linden, hop beech, oak, ornamental cherry as well as apple and pear trees.

Importance of city trees

First mayorStephan Antwerpemphasizes the great importance of city trees: "Every single tree is a habitat for numerous animal species, binds CO2, provides shade and makes a significant contribution to improving the city's climate. I am therefore very pleased that many citizens supported us in the anniversary trees campaign and would like to thank you very much!"

Another step is planned. Depending on funding opportunities and location, 65 street trees will be planted.
